Also not to try the impossible in a fight with your partner, but to move and respond to opportunities, using Ideal logical movement According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/kodokankendo.uk\/index.php\/2025\/11\/12\/the-principles-of-nature-and-the-way-of-budo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Principles of Nature<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relationship:<\/strong> <em>Uchidachi <\/em>\u2018the one who leads\u2019 &#8211; <em>Shidachi<\/em> \u2018the one who follows.\u2019 The principle of <em>Aiki <\/em>as in <strong>\u2018Follow the movement and timing\u2019<\/strong> not to be confused with harmony, <em>(Aikido)<\/em> as in <em>\u2018Wa\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Uchidachi &#8211; <\/em><\/strong>Should have empathy and an understanding of <em>Shidachi\u2019s<\/em> needs \u2013 light striking to encourage the application of good <em>Waza <\/em>\u2013 technique is essential and <em>Shidachi <\/em>should make effort to adhere to the concept of <em>Aiki <\/em>\u2013 \u2018follow the movement and timing\u2019. The relationship of <em>Motodachi and Kakarite<\/em> have the similar elements of <em>Uchidachi <\/em>and <em>Shidachi.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Distance <\/strong>(Maai) \u2013 Use \u2018The mechanism\u2019 to judge distance i.e. 5 and 3 step footwork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breathing <\/strong>\u2013 Use <em>Ki-ken-tai<\/em> \u2013 coordination of body, sword and <em>Kiai<\/em> for efficiency in breath use.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Zanshin<\/em><\/strong><em>:<\/em> Total awareness &#8211; must be maintained throughout with emphasis in the final instance after the <em>Waza <\/em>is completed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Body movement<\/strong> \u2013 70% lower body 30% upper body and sword. Ensure correct foot positions are maintained in line with standard Kendo stances.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Namba Aruki<\/em><\/strong><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>Was the running and walking style famously used by the express runners (<em>hikyaku<\/em> \u98db\u811a) during Japan\u2019s Edo Period (1603\u20131868).<\/p>\n<p>Aligns with the body\u2019s natural biomechanics, enhancing balance, stamina, and efficiency. It reduces wasted motion, keeps posture stable, coordinates power between the limbs and hips, and allows movement to remain smooth and controlled without unnecessary strain. Maintains the connection between the upper and lower body.
